Hello, Maestro, how are you feeling today?
Good, my children, and how is it going in the blood system, no problems?
No problems, everything in order. No viruses, no bacteria.
And how is my beloved friends, Professor Globus and his eternal companions Hemo and Globin?
Hello, Maestro, yes, I´m fine, even do my back hurts from carrying all of this carbon dioxide (says Professor Globus), and my friends Hemo and Globin are also here, by my side. We are on our way to the lungs, to get rid of this unbearable gas. Isnt´t that right, Hemo?
Yes, professor, I just can´t wait to dispose this and load up my favourite sweet oxygen, answers Hemo.
…And that is just the part of a complex educational story of a group of the red blood cells on their way through the human body systems, and all of their adventures and misadventures when they explore all the organs and other body mysteries, together with Professor Globus, a real expert and a storytelling guide that has a correct answer to every question of his companion friends.
The series Once Upon a Time… Life represent the cells that make up the body’s systems and defense mechanisms, such as red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, while antagonists represent viruses and bacteria that threaten to attack the human body. Every episode of the series featured a different organ or system within the human body (like the brain, the heart, the circulatory system, etc.).

The program was originally produced in France in 1987. by Procidis and directed by Albert Barillé. The series consists of 26 episodes and originally was aired on the French channel Canal+, and then on the state-owned channel FR3. It was produced together with seven other TV channels from all around the Europe and beyond: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation/Radio Canada, Televisión Española (Spain), Katholieke Radio Omroep (The Netherlands), Radio Télévision Suisse (Switzerland), RTBF and Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (Belgium) and Eiken (anime studio from Japan).

It is the third part of the Once Upon a Time… series, preceded by Once Upon a Time… Man (1978.) and Once Upon a Time… Space (1982.), and succeeded by Once Upon a Time… The Americas (1992.), Once Upon a Time… The Discoverers (1994.), Once Upon a Time… The Explorers (1997.) and Once Upon a Time… Planet Earth (2008.).
They are considered one of the first true educational children animated series with a comic elements, great graphics (for the time when they were made) and an interesting storytelling, that is not only atractive for the kids, but for the grown-ups too.

You can watch some of these Once Upon A Time… series for free on the YT channels (in English):

This sounds like a great cartoon. And it has a fun intro too. The cartoons of the 1980’s were brill. 🙂 Did you ever hear of “The Numskulls”? It was a Comic Strip in the Beano and before that in The Beezer. The Numskulls were little cartoon people that lived in humans heads and tried to help control their bodies and minds. It was great. 🙂 Also quite educational.

Yes, that is very funny and education cartoon. No, I have not heard of The Numskulls, but I wish to tank you for that advice. I really like to watch movies and cartoons that have the science elements. I will try to find that on YT channels…

Oh the Numskulls was a cartoon script in a comic so you would only find it on paper. It was not on TV as such. 🙂

Yes, I have investigated your information, and unfortunatelly they are available only as comics in UK. Even do I think they would be such a good topic for a cartoon series..

Ain´t they funny? In the last few weeks I was watching them again, in English version on YT channels. But I liked the original French version better, the one that I watched when I was a kid (with Croatian subtitles, of course)…
